The Centre has accepted a proposal to eliminate a ‘will’ as an essential document for availing of benefits under the Pradhan Mantri – Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY) initiative, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) said on Friday.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) reported on Friday that the Centre had approved a proposal to exclude a “will” as a mandatory document in order to simplify the documentation required to avail of benefits under the Pradhan Mantri – Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (Pm Uday Yojana) scheme.
For residents in illegal settlements, the government of India introduced the PM-UDAY plan in December 2019.
The DDA said in a statement, “After adjustments are made to the rules, these applications will now be handled in the absence of a ‘will.'” It went on to say that it anticipated an increase in both the pace at which cases were resolved and the total number of applications as a result of the removal of the “will” as an obligatory document.

In December of 2019, the government of India introduced the PM-UDAY plan, which aims to legalise property transactions in unrecognised settlements.
The DDA said in a statement, “After adjustments are made in the legislation, these applications will now be handled in the absence of a ‘will.'” It went on to say that it anticipated an increase in both the pace at which cases were resolved and the number of applications in general as a result of the removal of the ‘will’ as an obligatory document.
According to Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Puri, who addressed the issue at a news conference on March 8th, many applicants under the programmed did not have a legitimate “will” document, and the proposed modification would assist remedy this issue.

The DDA noted that many applicants had submitted “Registered Gift Deeds” rather than “General Powers of Attorney” or “Agreements to Sell” in order to get advantages from the programme.
The rules did not recognize the ‘Gift Deed’ as a valid document, thus they could not be processed. The DDA said in a news release that “effective immediately, applications containing a Registered Gift Deed will also be authorized for conferring property rights under Dda Pm Uday.”
